About SP files

The .sp file extension primarily identifies a PerkinElmer Spectrum spectroscopy data file. It is a highly specialized format used in scientific laboratories to store spectral data sets recorded by analytical instruments. Alternatively, .sp is widely used as a plain-text source code file written in the SourcePawn scripting language for the SourceMod game server modification platform.

Scientific .sp files are managed using PerkinElmer Spectrum or PASCO SPARKvue software. Developer-focused .sp files can be edited in any code editor, such as Notepad++ or Visual Studio Code.

The main disadvantage of the scientific .sp format is its proprietary nature. It requires expensive, hardware-locked lab software to open, making it extremely difficult to share raw data with peers, import it into external statistical software, or embed it in research papers. For gamers, a SourcePawn .sp file is just text and cannot run on a server until it is compiled into a binary executable.

To overcome these limitations, convert scientific .sp files to CSV or TXT for data analysis in standard spreadsheet tools. For archiving and sharing visual reports, convert them to PDF or PNG. For game servers, you must compile the .sp script into an SMX plugin.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ASC, SMX, PS, ZIP, PDF, JPG, TXT, SPA, STP, CRDOWNLOAD, GSW, SPV and DOCX files.

The SP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SP converter.
