About SP files
The .SP file extension primarily represents spectroscopy data sets created by PerkinElmer Spectrum software. These files contain essential spectral data (infrared, UV/Vis, fluorescence) used in chemical analysis and scientific research. While powerful for instrument control and data acquisition, the .SP format is highly proprietary. This creates significant friction for researchers who need to share data with colleagues who lack a PerkinElmer license or wish to analyze results in third-party tools like Microsoft Excel or MATLAB.
