Convert a file to SNP
To convert other file formats to the "Report Snapshot File" file type, you need software like Microsoft Access or a similar tool.
About SNP files
The .snp file is primarily a Microsoft Access Report Snapshot. Microsoft created this format to allow users to view database reports without needing a full installation of Microsoft Access. It functions like a digital printout, preserving the exact layout, text, graphics, and pagination of the original database report. Other software ecosystems also use the .snp extension, such as Siemens LOGO! for PLC program projects, Snap-On for vehicle diagnostic logs, and Snapchat for temporary captured images stored in JFIF format.
The .snp format is essentially obsolete. Microsoft officially deprecated the standalone Snapshot Viewer in 2010. Today, opening these files natively is incredibly frustrating on modern Windows systems, and impossible natively on macOS or Linux. It relies on an outdated proprietary structure - often utilizing Microsoft Compound file formats or CAP. You cannot edit the text, the files are completely unsupported by modern web browsers, and sharing them today guarantees the recipient will not be able to read them.
You must convert these files to modern document standards like PDF or DOCX to restore their accessibility. Converting to PDF is the best choice, as it preserves the strict visual layout originally intended by the Access report, though the data remains uneditable.
Because .snp is a closed, proprietary format heavily tied to ancient Windows architectures, standard online converters usually fail to process it. Often, only the original legacy software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - like extractable UTF-16 text or a wrapped JFIF image - viewing or conversion may still be successfully completed without the original software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SNP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SNP file to PDF, JPEG, INDD, QXP, PUB, PMD, PM6, PM7, PM8, PM9, PM10 or PM11, you can use Microsoft Access or similar software from the "Database Report Snapshot" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MDI, PUB, PDP, PM4, P65, COMIC, WEBTEMPLATE, PMD, SPUB, INDD, PM5 or QXP files to SNP, try Microsoft Access or another comparable tool in the "Database Report Snapshot" category.
The SNP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SNP converter.
