A .SHS file is a Shell Scrap Object originally created by legacy versions of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office. Users generated these files by highlighting text or objects in a document and dragging them directly onto their desktop.
The .SHS format is highly problematic today. It functions as a proprietary OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) container. Because it can easily disguise malicious executable code, it poses a severe security risk. For this reason, Microsoft completely removed native support for the format starting with Windows Vista. You cannot open these files on modern operating systems or web browsers without specialized legacy tools.
