Convert SGT to another file type
To convert SGT Templates to another format, you need Microsoft DirectX or other Audio software.
Convert a file to SGT
To convert other file formats to the "DirectMusic Segment" file type, you need software like Microsoft DirectX or a similar tool.
About SGT files
An .SGT file primarily functions as a DirectMusic Segment, a legacy audio container built on the RIFF standard by Microsoft. These files were heavily used in older Windows PC games, often managed by the Miles Sound System to deliver dynamic, interactive soundtracks. Alternatively, an .SGT file is an SPSS Graph Template utilized by IBM SPSS Statistics to store XML-based visual properties for data charts. Less frequently, it appears as a rebranded PDF contract summary from Vodafone, a GEO-SLOPE geotechnical data file, or a Sage accounting transaction file.
The primary disadvantage of the .SGT format is its extreme fragmentation and obsolescence. DirectMusic segments require deprecated DirectX libraries to play natively and are completely unsupported by modern web browsers, smartphones, or standard media players like VLC. SPSS templates require an expensive, proprietary software subscription to open and apply the visual data to actual charts.
Converting .SGT files is highly dependent on their internal structure. Game audio segments should be converted to MP3 or WAV for universal playback, though this flattens interactive MIDI-like sequences into a static track and requires companion DLS (Downloadable Sounds) files to render the instruments correctly. SPSS templates can be converted to generic XML or TXT to safely inspect the underlying chart rules across different platforms.
Because this file extension is shared among radically different formats (binary audio, XML databases, and encrypted PDFs), standard online converters frequently fail to process it. Our engine analyzes the file signature - whether it is a RIFF container, raw XML, or a hidden PDF document - to bypass extension confusion, showing you internal text or extracting the media when supported.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SGT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SGT file to IST, EST, CST, UTC, PST, GMT, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML or TOML, you can use Microsoft DirectX or similar software from the "Interactive Game Audio Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to SGT, try Microsoft DirectX or another comparable tool in the "Interactive Game Audio Storage" category.
The SGT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SGT converter.
