About SET files

The .SET extension is a generic container used by dozens of incompatible applications, most notably the MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 trading platforms for saving Expert Advisor (EA) strategies. In this context, the file is a plain text configuration list defining input parameters for automated trading. However, the same extension is also used for binary datasets in EEGLAB (MATLAB toolbox) for electroencephalography analysis, configuration files in games like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and proprietary styles in Korg musical keyboards.

The core challenge with .SET files is their ambiguity; without knowing the originating software, the file appears as an unrecognizable binary or text blob. Users often struggle to open them because standard text editors may corrupt binary versions (like Korg or EEGLAB files), while specialized software requires expensive licenses or specific installations. For MetaTrader users, sharing strategies often requires converting these raw parameters into a readable PDF or TXT format for documentation. For EEGLAB researchers, converting dataset headers to CSV or MAT is essential for interoperability with other statistical tools like Excel or Python.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SET file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted EX4, EX5, ZIP, DACPAC, BIN, PGD, STEP, TXT, RAR, STY, SRT, SIG and OPT files.

The SET Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SET converter.
