About RTON files
The .RTON file format is a proprietary game data and save file container used by PopCap Games, predominantly in Plants vs. Zombies 2. These files store critical game assets, level configurations, player progression, and settings. In reality, an .RTON file is a serialized, binary version of a standard JSON file. Developers use this format because it loads significantly faster on mobile devices and consumes less memory than parsing standard plain text. The main disadvantage of the .RTON format is that it is completely closed and proprietary. If you attempt to open it with a standard text editor, you will see unreadable binary gibberish. Users typically want to convert .RTON files back to human-readable JSON or TXT to modify game values, create custom levels, or edit save files.
