About RTM files
The .RTM file extension most frequently represents a Report Template created by Digital Metaphors ReportBuilder, a reporting tool for Delphi applications. These files store the layout, data connections, and formatting rules for generating business reports. Because .RTM files are designed to be read programmatically by specific host applications (like accounting software or ERP systems), they are essentially "locked" to the average user. You cannot open them in standard word processors like Microsoft Word or text editors without seeing garbled raw data or proprietary code structures.
A secondary but significant use of the extension is for LabVIEW Run-Time Menu files by National Instruments, which define custom menu bars for virtual instruments. Occasionally, users encounter .RTM files as Visual C++ manifests or assembly files in Windows system directories. To make these files usable, the best approach is conversion based on intent. For ReportBuilder templates, converting to PDF is ideal for archiving and sharing the final visual output, while HTML allows for web embedding. If you need to migrate the template structure itself to a new system, converting the underlying definitions to XML or RTF is the recommended workflow.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RTM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted RTA, RTN, RTZ, RTF, PDF, ZIP, FRT, DOCX, RAR, LRF, C4D, ASICE and TXT files.
The RTM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RTM converter.
