The .RTM file extension is most heavily utilized as a Report Template by Digital Metaphors ReportBuilder, a leading reporting framework for Delphi developers. These files contain structural definitions for business reports, including visual layout, data pipelines, margins, and text styling. A secondary, highly distinct use of .RTM is found in Bohemia Interactive's Arma 3 game engine, where it acts as a skeletal animation data file containing motion capture or keyframed character movements. Additionally, .RTM files often surface in Windows environments as internal component manifests or security catalogs for Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable packages.
The primary disadvantage of .RTM report templates is their strict proprietary nature. You cannot open a ReportBuilder .RTM file in a web browser or standard word processor to view the final report.
