About RTD files
The .RTD file extension is a highly fragmented format primarily used for three completely different purposes: Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis models, WPS Office zipped text documents, or RagTime desktop publishing layouts. This severe fragmentation makes dealing with .RTD files extremely frustrating, as double-clicking the file rarely opens it in the right application unless your system is perfectly configured. When used by Autodesk, an .RTD file stores complex structural analysis data using a Microsoft Compound binary format. These files are massive, strictly proprietary, and require an expensive enterprise software license to open or edit. If the file comes from WPS Office, it is simply a zipped HTML text document. While lighter, it suffers from compatibility issues and cannot be opened natively by Microsoft Word. RagTime users face similar isolation, as their .RTD documents lock content inside a niche desktop publishing ecosystem. To escape these proprietary limitations, conversion is essential. For document-based .RTD files (WPS Office or RagTime), convert to PDF for guaranteed cross-device viewing or DOCX for editing. For Autodesk structural models, you must usually export directly from the software to standard CAD formats like DWG or IFC to avoid losing complex 3D geometry.
