To convert other file formats to the "Response Data File" file type, you need software like RSLogix 5 or a similar tool.
About RSP files
The .RSP file extension is notorious for being a fragmented, multi-purpose format used across drastically different industries. It primarily functions as a Response File for automated installations, a project file for programmable logic controllers (PLCs), or a data container for specialized testing software.
The most prominent uses include silent installation scripts for the Oracle Universal Installer, PLC program files for Rockwell Automation RSLogix 5, RPC III test data from MTS Systems Corporation, and test question banks in Respondus LockDown Browser. It is also utilized by RS Production as a compressed project file.
The primary disadvantage of the .RSP format is its lack of standardization. Because over a dozen unrelated applications share the same extension, users frequently face errors trying to open them. A text-based Oracle response file is entirely different from a binary RSLogix Microsoft Compound document. Attempting to open a binary .RSP file in a standard editor will display garbled text, and accessing proprietary industrial formats often requires software licenses costing thousands of dollars.
To safely read or extract data from an unknown .RSP file, you need to identify its true structure first. For text-based response scripts, convert the file to TXT or CSV for easy editing. If the file is actually a compressed archive (like those from RS Production), convert it to ZIP to extract its internal XML data.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RSP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert RSP file to EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4, BSP, MAP, SAV or DAT, you can use RSLogix 5 or similar software from the "Automated Response Scripts" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to RSP, try RSLogix 5 or another comparable tool in the "Automated Response Scripts" category.
The RSP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RSP converter.
