About SER files
A .ser file usually contains a serialized Java object, though it can also represent a serialized object in .NET or PHP, or an astronomical image sequence. In programming, serialization converts an object's state into a binary byte stream so it can be saved to a database or transferred over a network. For Java, this is natively handled by the Java Platform. However, serialized object files are completely unreadable to humans and tightly coupled to the specific software version that created them. If the underlying class definition changes, the .ser file often breaks permanently, causing an InvalidClassException. They also pose severe remote code execution security risks if deserialized from untrusted sources. Astronomers also use .ser files as raw, uncompressed video captures for planetary imaging via software like Lucam Recorder. These files are massive and lack native support in standard media players.
