The .RAP extension primarily refers to flowchart files created by RAPTOR (Rapid Algorithmic Prototyping Tool for Ordered Reasoning), a visual programming environment used heavily in computer science education. These files store executable algorithms as graphical flowcharts rather than text-based code. While excellent for logic visualization, .rap files are proprietary and cannot be opened by standard image viewers or web browsers. To share these algorithms with instructors or non-programmers, users often need to convert them into static images like JPG or BMP, or export the logic into functional code files like JAVA, CPP, or CS.
A secondary but significant use of the format is as a Project File for Room Arranger, a piece of software used for designing room layouts and floor plans. These files contain vector data regarding walls, furniture, and dimensions. Sharing these native files with clients or contractors is problematic if they do not own the software license; therefore, converting these designs to PDF for blueprints or PNG for visual previews is a standard workflow.
