A .rap file usually stores a RAPTOR Flowchart, an educational visual programming tool, or a 2D/3D floor plan created in Room Arranger. Less commonly, it acts as a Relativity Application Package, a renamed archive, or an encrypted PlayStation 3 Content License.
The main disadvantage of the .rap format is its highly fragmented usage and proprietary nature. RAPTOR files contain plain XML code representing algorithmic logic, but without the official RAPTOR environment, the graphical flowchart is invisible to the user. Room Arranger files require a paid installation of Room Arranger to render designs, creating friction when sharing floor plans with clients. Meanwhile, Sony's PS3 .rap files are DRM-locked system files that are strictly impossible to open or edit.
To make these files genuinely usable, conversion is necessary. For sharing programming assignments, convert RAPTOR .rap files to PDF or PNG. For interior design reviews, export Room Arranger plans to standard JPG images. If you are dealing with a Relativity package or renamed archive, simply rename the extension to ZIP or RAR to extract the data natively.
