Extract text from PlayStation 3 themes (P3T)

To convert other file formats to the "Console Theme Package" file type, you need software like PlayStation 3 System or a similar tool.
The .P3T file is a proprietary PlayStation 3 Theme file created by Sony. It acts as a compressed container that bundles custom background wallpapers, menu icons, and notification sounds used to change the visual appearance of the PS3 dashboard, officially known as the XrossMediaBar (XMB).
Users install these files directly onto the console via a USB drive. On a PC, specific community tools like PS3 Theme Builder or PS3 Theme Extractor are required to open, compile, or decompile them.
Because .P3T is a closed, proprietary archive format designed exclusively for legacy console hardware, it has severe limitations on modern operating systems. The files cannot be opened by standard image viewers, and popular archive utilities like 7-Zip or WinRAR cannot unpack them. This lack of broad support makes it frustrating if you just want to view the background images or icons on your computer.
If you want to view the contents, the best approach is to extract the .P3T file to access its internal PNG (icons), JPG (backgrounds), and audio components. This file format is difficult to open or convert because standard online converters fail to parse the proprietary Sony file headers. Often, only the original hardware or reverse-engineered extraction software can properly read or export the data.
