Convert PPG to another file type
To convert your PPG file to another format, you need Mitutoyo MeasurLink or other Data software.
Convert a file to PPG
To convert other file formats to the "Metrology Inspection Program" file type, you need software like Mitutoyo MeasurLink or a similar tool.
About PPG files
The .ppg extension is primarily associated with proprietary industrial metrology (measurement) software used in quality control manufacturing. It serves two distinct but related functions: as a Part Program file for Mitutoyo Linear Height Gauges (such as the LH-600P) and as a legacy part inspection routine for Hexagon PC-DMIS coordinate measuring machines (CMMs).
In a typical workflow, quality engineers create these files to define the automated probe movements, tolerance checks, and measurement paths a machine must follow to verify a physical part against its blueprints. The file contains coordinate data, vector paths, and logical commands (IF/THEN statements) for the inspection equipment.
Practical Constraints & Friction:
Proprietary Lock-in: These are often binary or specialized ASCII formats readable only by the specific machine controller or expensive metrology software suites (costing thousands of dollars).
Lack of Interoperability: A .ppg file from a Mitutoyo gauge cannot be opened in standard CAD software like AutoCAD or data tools like Microsoft Excel.
Legacy Hardware: Many of these files reside on older shop-floor computers, making them difficult to view on modern Windows 11 systems without specific drivers or legacy software versions.
Conversion Recommendations:
For Documentation & Archiving: Convert the program logic to PDF. This allows non-technical staff to review the inspection routine without altering the code.
For Data Analysis: If the file contains results, convert or parse it to CSV or TXT. This enables quality data to be imported into statistical process control (SPC) software like Minitab.
For Editing: The file must usually be imported back into its native environment (e.g., Mitutoyo MeasurLink or PC-DMIS) to be safely edited.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PPG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PPG file to PSI, SG, RAL, PCF or PNG, you can use Mitutoyo MeasurLink or similar software from the "Measurement Part Program File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The PPG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PPG converter.
