.PPG files are highly specialized measurement part programs used in industrial metrology. They are primarily generated and executed by Mitutoyo Linear Height Gauges and Hexagon PC-DMIS CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) software. These files contain specific hardware instructions, measurement paths, and routines required to physically inspect manufactured parts.
Users often need to convert these files to extract measurement routines for quality control audits, share inspection parameters with engineers, or generate human-readable reports. The severe disadvantage of the .PPG format is its strict proprietary nature. It is heavily locked to specific metrology hardware and software, making it completely useless to anyone who does not own a license for the exact measurement machine. You cannot open these files in standard text editors or generic CAD software.
The best target formats for measurement data include CSV for spreadsheet analysis, TXT for raw code review, or PDF for static reporting. However, exporting to these formats usually results in losing the executable machine code.
