About PP2 files

The .PP2 file extension primarily serves two highly specific technical functions. Its most common use is as a PingPlotter Data File generated by PingPlotter, storing granular network trace data, packet loss metrics, and latency history over time. Its second major use is as a Poser Prop File used by Poser 3D software to store 3D objects, rigging parameters, and material settings. Additionally, .PP2 is used as a project file by Pinnacle Studio and as a character mod file in games created by Illusion (such as Koikatsu).

The primary disadvantage of the .PP2 format is its rigid proprietary nature. You cannot natively open a PingPlotter trace file without installing their specific desktop software, which poses a massive barrier when sharing diagnostic data with ISP support technicians. Poser .PP2 files present a different challenge: they are often just text-based parameter scripts that point to external OBJ files. If you move the .PP2 file without the associated geometry folder, the 3D model completely breaks. Pinnacle Studio .PP2 files are merely database files pointing to local media on your hard drive, containing zero actual video data.

To bypass these limitations, conversion is essential. For network trace data, convert .PP2 to CSV or TXT to ensure IT professionals can analyze the metrics in Microsoft Excel without installing trial software. For 3D props, converting .PP2 geometry references to a unified OBJ or FBX format guarantees compatibility with modern suites like Blender.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PP2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PPTX, RVT, ZIP, PPZ, RSR, PZ2 and PP3 files.

The PP2 Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PP2 converter.
