About RSR files

The .rsr extension is shared by two distinct professional file types that often require conversion for usability.

  1. PTV Vissim Simulation Results: In traffic engineering, PTV Vissim generates .rsr files to store raw travel time and evaluation data. These binary files are not directly readable by standard spreadsheet software. Engineers frequently need to convert this data into XLSX (Excel) or CSV formats to perform statistical analysis, create graphs, or share findings with stakeholders without requiring a Vissim license.
  2. Poser Model Previews: For 3D artists, .rsr files are legacy thumbnail images used by older versions of Smith Micro Poser (versions 4 and Pro Pack) to preview library content like characters (Poser .cr2) and props (.pp2). Modern operating systems and newer versions of Poser (5+) utilize PNG files for previews.
