About PPZ files

A .PPZ file is most commonly a Microsoft PowerPoint Pack and Go presentation. This legacy format was designed in the late 1990s and early 2000s to bundle a presentation (pre-2007 .PPT) along with all its linked assets - like fonts, audio files, and video clips - into a single compressed archive for transport (often across multiple floppy disks).

A common issue for users today is that .PPZ is effectively obsolete. Modern versions of Microsoft PowerPoint (2013 and later) no longer generate this format, and opening these files can trigger security blocks or compatibility errors because the internal structure relies on deprecated executable wrappers. Users often find themselves locked out of their own archival data because the "Pack and Go" executable (pngsetup.exe) won't run on 64-bit Windows.

For most users, the goal is to retrieve the slide content. The best workflow is to treat the .PPZ as an archive. Converting or renaming the file to ZIP often allows you to extract the underlying PPT presentation, which can then be opened in modern software and saved as a standard PPTX. For Picaso accounting users, the file is a standard ZIP archive of financial data. For 3D artists using Poser, a .PPZ is a compressed prop file that should be converted to PP2 or OBJ for broader compatibility.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PPZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PPTX, WEBARCHIVE, RSR, PP2 and PZ2 files.

The PPZ Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PPZ converter.
