Extract text from Location and plot files (PLC)
To convert PLC Data files to another format, you need GPSWOX or other Data software.
To convert other file formats to the "Tracking & CAD Output" file type, you need software like GPSWOX or a similar tool.
The .plc file extension suffers from extreme fragmentation, serving entirely different industries. Primarily, it is a GPS location data file formatted in plain text JSON, generated by GPSWOX tracking software. Secondly, it is a printed circuit board (PCB) silkscreen plot exported in the Gerber RS-274X format by electronic design automation (EDA) software like Eagle (formerly CadSoft). It is also occasionally used for Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) projects in Siemens STEP 7, and even UTF-16 encoded karaoke playlists by PowerKaraoke.
Because the .plc extension is shared across IoT tracking, electronics manufacturing, and industrial automation, your operating system will rarely know how to open it by default. A GPS program will crash if fed a PCB silkscreen plot, and CAD software cannot read a karaoke playlist. These files are highly platform-dependent, making them extremely frustrating to share or archive without specialized viewing tools.
To make the data usable, you must convert it based on its origin. For GPS data, convert the .plc file to GPX, KML, or standard JSON to plot the coordinates on Google Earth or standard mapping APIs. For PCB manufacturing, view or convert the Gerber data to PDF or DXF to review the silkscreen text layers without buying expensive CAM software.
