About GXW files
A .GXW file is a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming project file created by Mitsubishi Electric's GX Works2 software. It stores industrial automation routines, ladder logic diagrams, sequence instructions, and I/O hardware configurations used to control physical manufacturing equipment.
This format is notoriously difficult for non-engineers to handle. It is heavily proprietary and requires a very expensive, licensed installation of the MELSOFT engineering suite just to open. Without a dedicated Mitsubishi workstation, the files are effectively inaccessible. Furthermore, the format is locked to the Mitsubishi ecosystem, meaning you cannot natively migrate the logic to a Siemens or Allen-Bradley controller.
Users typically need to convert .GXW files into PDF formats to share the ladder logic with maintenance technicians, or export the data into TXT or CSV files to review I/O tag lists and variable mappings.
Because this is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters fail to process it. The binary automation instructions can only be correctly interpreted by the original software engine. Interestingly, .GXW files utilize a Microsoft Compound Document architecture.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GXW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The GXW Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GXW converter.
