About PLAIN files

A .plain file is a basic text document containing unformatted characters. It is fundamentally identical to a standard TXT file. These files are typically generated by automated systems, email clients, or web browsers saving content delivered with the text/plain MIME type when a specific file extension is not provided. They are used for storing raw data, configuration settings, server logs, or simple notes. You can open a .plain file with any basic text editor, such as Windows Notepad, Apple TextEdit, or advanced code editors like Visual Studio Code. The main disadvantage of the .plain format is its complete lack of formatting. You cannot add bold text, italics, headers, tables, or images. It is purely raw text. If you try to share this file for a professional presentation or structured document review, the recipient will see a messy, unstructured block of text. Furthermore, different operating systems handle line breaks differently (CRLF vs. LF), which can cause the text to appear as one continuous, unreadable line when opened on a different machine. To make the content presentable, you should convert it to PDF for universal, fixed-layout sharing, or to DOCX if you need to add rich text formatting and styling in Microsoft Word. Converting to HTML is useful for web publishing. While this is an open standard, dealing with unfamiliar extensions can be confusing.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PLAIN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PLAN, PLA, BIN, 7Z, TXT and G3D files.
