Convert a file to OSP
To convert other file formats to the "Video Editing Project File" file type, you need software like OpenShot or a similar tool.
About OSP files
The .OSP file extension is most commonly used for OpenShot Video Editor Project files. These files are created by OpenShot Video Editor, a free, open-source video editing application. Under the hood, .OSP files are formatted in plain text using JSON. They store your video editing timeline, including tracks, clips, transition settings, keyframes, and the absolute paths to the original media files (audio, video, and images) stored on your hard drive. Other less common uses for the .OSP extension include Outfit Studio XML project files for Skyrim modding, IBM Standard Software Installer parameter files, and On-Screen Takeoff project files.
Users typically want to convert .OSP files because they misunderstand how project files work. An .OSP file is completely useless on its own - it does not contain the actual video or audio data, only instructions on how to assemble it. The biggest disadvantage of this format is its fragility; if you share an .OSP file without bundling the original source files, or if you simply rename a folder on your computer, the project will instantly break and display 'Missing Media' errors. Standard online video converters fail to process .OSP files because there is no playable media inside them to convert.
To get a playable video, the only realistic target formats are MP4, MKV, or AVI. However, you cannot directly convert the file. You must open it inside the original OpenShot application and render or export the project to a final video format.
Because it is essentially a proprietary structural file, .OSP is difficult to process with standard conversion tools. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data.
Convert.Guru analyzes your OSP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert OSP file to MP4, MP3, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF or DAT, you can use OpenShot or similar software from the "Video Editor Project Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to OSP, try OpenShot or another comparable tool in the "Video Editor Project Data" category.
The OSP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OSP converter.
