About OIV files
The .OIV file format is a specialized mod package used exclusively by OpenIV, a popular modding tool for games utilizing the RAGE engine, most notably Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2. Modders use this format to distribute custom vehicles, map edits, and gameplay scripts in a single, easy-to-install file. The main disadvantage of the .OIV format is its strict dependency on the OpenIV software. Without it, the file appears completely unrecognized by standard operating systems, preventing users from seeing what changes the mod will actually make to their game files before installation. Furthermore, users who prefer manual mod installation cannot easily access the raw files inside natively. The best conversion target for an .OIV file is a standard ZIP or RAR archive. Converting or extracting it allows you to access the underlying RPF archives, YTD textures, and the core assembly.xml script file. Note that extracting the file means you lose the one-click automated installation feature provided by OpenIV, forcing you to inject the mod files manually. This file format is difficult to open or convert outside of its ecosystem because it is designed as a closed installer rather than a general-purpose archive.
