About OFD files
An .OFD file is primarily an Open Fixed-layout Document, a format established as a Chinese National Standard for electronic documents. It is heavily used in China for official invoices, legal records, and administrative paperwork. Structurally, it is a compressed ZIP container holding XML files and multimedia assets, functioning much like a PDF. In rare cases, an .OFD file may also be an OyezForms legal data file or a school timetable from Orario Facile.
Users often need to convert .OFD files because they are highly regional and inconvenient outside of their native ecosystem. Outside of China, standard web browsers and operating systems do not natively support them. Opening one usually requires a specialized, region-specific application like Suwell OFD Reader. This makes sharing these documents internationally incredibly frustrating and disruptive to typical business workflows. The best target format is PDF for universal viewing or JPG for simple image referencing.
Standard online converters frequently fail to process .OFD files because they lack the specific rendering engines required by the Chinese national standard. For the rare OyezForms variants, the data is entirely proprietary and locked to specific legal software. Because the main .OFD format is a ZIP container, our analysis can often inspect the internal structure and extract embedded images or text even if full layout conversion is restricted.
Convert.Guru analyzes your OFD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The OFD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OFD converter.
