About CAJ files
The .CAJ file format stores Chinese Academic Journal documents. It is the proprietary document format primarily used by the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), a major Chinese academic database. To open these files, users are typically forced to use CAJViewer, a specialized application developed by Tsinghua Tongfang. The .CAJ format has significant disadvantages. It is a closed, proprietary container that is not natively supported by standard web browsers or universal document readers. Users outside of China often face language barriers in the software, compatibility issues on macOS or Linux platforms, and heavy Digital Rights Management (DRM) restrictions that block copying or printing. You should convert .CAJ files to standard formats like PDF or DOCX to ensure long-term accessibility, cross-platform compatibility, and easy sharing without specialized tools. However, converting these files is notoriously difficult. Because this is a closed, proprietary format often wrapped with custom encryption, standard online converters usually fail to process it. Often, only the original CAJViewer software can properly read or export the encrypted data. Our system will inspect the internal file structure.
