About NAK files

The .NAK file is predominantly a Negative Acknowledgement data file used by the Indian Customs EDI System (ICES) or a salary rejection file generated by the UAE Wages Protection System (WPS). A smaller subset of .NAK files act as application settings backups created by the Android app Notify for Mi Band.

These files are highly proprietary and specialized. Government EDI systems output .NAK files to inform users that a submitted document contains errors and was rejected. Because the .NAK extension is not standard, operating systems do not know how to open it. Double-clicking usually results in a frustrating "Windows cannot open this file" error. Furthermore, the raw EDI syntax is difficult to read for non-technical users. For the Mi Band backups, the file is actually a renamed ZIP, but the custom extension prevents standard archive managers from recognizing it.

To resolve these issues, you need to convert or parse the file. For EDI and WPS logs, converting to TXT or CSV extracts the raw error codes into a readable format for auditing. For Mi Band backups, converting to ZIP allows you to extract the internal configuration files using standard tools like 7-Zip.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NAK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ACK, PDF, BAK, PRN, TXT, DAT, SVG, CDR, ASPX, ENC, VRF, JPEG and PHP files.

The NAK Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NAK converter.
