About PDO files
A .PDO file is a specialized 3D model format created by Pepakura Designer, primarily used for creating papercraft. These files contain both the 3D polygon mesh and the 2D unfolded pattern, complete with fold lines, cut lines, and texture data necessary for physical assembly. While indispensable for the papercraft community, the format is proprietary and heavily reliant on the Pepakura Viewer or Designer software, which is Windows-centric. Users often face significant friction when attempting to view these files on macOS or mobile devices, or when trying to edit the patterns in standard vector software like Adobe Illustrator.
Furthermore, many .PDO files are password-protected by their creators, restricting the ability to export the underlying 3D model or change texture settings. To overcome these limitations, the most practical solution is converting the file. For printing and archiving, converting to PDF ensures the layout remains fixed and printable on any device without specialized software. For users with cutting machines (like Cricut or Silhouette), converting to DXF or SVG is essential to isolate cut lines. If you need to recover the original 3D geometry for use in Blender or 3ds Max, exporting to OBJ or 3DS is the standard workflow, provided the file permissions allow it.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PDO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PDO file to PDF, OBJ, STL, PNG, INDD, QXP, PUB, PMD, PM6, PM7, PM8 or PM9, you can use Pepakura Designer or similar software from the "Papercraft 3D Model" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MDI, PUB, PDP, PM4, P65, COMIC, WEBTEMPLATE, PMD, SPUB, INDD, PM5 or QXP files to PDO, try Pepakura Designer or another comparable tool in the "Papercraft 3D Model" category.
The PDO Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PDO converter.
