The .C01 extension is a classic example of a "collision" format, serving two completely different purposes depending on your industry. Most commonly in business environments, it represents a Taxable Payments Annual Report (TPAR) generated by Australian accounting software like MYOB AccountRight. These files contain critical contractor payment data formatted specifically for the Australian Taxation Office electronic reporting system.
The problem with TPAR .C01 files is that they are strict, fixed-width text files designed for mainframes, not humans. If you try to open one in a standard text editor, you will see a wall of unformatted numbers and codes without column headers. In technical circles, a .C01 file may be the first volume of a WinAce split archive (followed by .C02, .C03). These are compressed containers used to split large files across multiple disks. These cannot be "converted" individually; you must have all parts present and use a tool like WinRAR or 7-Zip to extract the contents back to their original format.
