The .MUSX file is the native project format for MakeMusic Finale, the professional music notation software that was the industry standard for decades until its discontinuation in August 2024. Introduced in Finale 2014 to replace the older binary MUS format, .MUSX files use a ZIP-compressed XML structure to store complex score data, including staff layouts, instrument definitions, and MIDI playback logic.
