Convert MST to another file type
To convert MST transforms to another format, you need Windows Installer or other System software.
Convert a file to MST
To convert other file formats to the "Windows Installer Patch" file type, you need software like Windows Installer or a similar tool.
About MST files
A .MST file is a Windows Installer Transform file. It is a specialized database patch that alters the default settings, features, or registry keys of a base MSI software package during deployment. IT administrators rely on these files to customize silent corporate software installations across large networks without directly modifying the original vendor installer.
The major disadvantage of the .MST format is its absolute dependence on a parent MSI file. It is a proprietary Microsoft Compound Document that functions solely as a database differential. You cannot double-click to open or run it natively; it must be executed via the command line. Furthermore, because it is a binary database diff, it is opaque to the average user and requires specialized knowledge to safely inspect or modify.
If you need to review the exact changes a transform makes, converting the .MST data into an XML or plain TXT format is the most pragmatic approach. Alternatively, system administrators frequently "slipstream" (merge) the .MST file directly into an MSI file to produce a standalone, pre-configured installer package.
This format is notoriously difficult to open or convert outside of its intended ecosystem. Because it is a closed, proprietary file representing structural database changes, standard online converters fail completely. Often, only the original deployment software can properly read or export the structured data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MST file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MST file to EST, IST, CST, PST, UTC, GMT, EDT, BST, INI, CFG, CONF or CONFIG, you can use Windows Installer or similar software from the "Installer Database Modification" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to MST, try Windows Installer or another comparable tool in the "Installer Database Modification" category.
The MST Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MST converter.
