About MST files
The .MST file extension is primarily a Windows Installer Transform file. It is used alongside an MSI (Microsoft Installer) database to apply custom configurations, such as changing default installation paths or disabling features, without modifying the original package. A secondary use is for Corel Presentations Master Template files. You can open or edit .MST files using specialized tools like Orca or Advanced Installer. These files are built on the Microsoft Compound (OLE) format. The main disadvantage of the .MST format is that it is highly proprietary, platform-specific to Windows, and useless without its parent MSI file. Users often need to convert or decompile it to readable XML or TXT formats to audit what changes the installer will make. For the Corel variant, users need to convert it to standard presentation formats like PPTX or PDF because modern software struggles to support old templates. Because .MST files are essentially relational databases of setup instructions, standard document or image converters fail entirely to process them. Only specialized installation authoring tools can properly read or export the table data.
