About MPM files
The .MPM extension is a multi-purpose format most frequently encountered as a game modification package for the classic shooter Max Payne, developed by Remedy Entertainment. In this context, it acts as a proprietary container - similar to a ZIP archive - holding custom textures, scripts, and level data used to alter gameplay. The main drawback for gamers and modders is that these archives are sealed; you cannot simply double-click to view the contents in Windows Explorer. To access the internal assets (for example, to edit textures in Photoshop), users historically required command-line tools like RasMaker to extract the data. Converting these files to standard ZIP archives allows for easy inspection of the assets without specialized modding utilities.
Beyond gaming, the .MPM extension causes confusion in scientific and audio workflows. In laboratory environments, it represents Microplate measurement data generated by SoftMax Pro software from Molecular Devices. These files lock critical absorbance or fluorescence readings inside a specific format that generic spreadsheet software cannot parse. Researchers often need to convert this data to CSV or XLSX to analyze results in Microsoft Excel or share findings with colleagues who lack the expensive instrument software. Additionally, legacy MPEG audio streams occasionally use this extension. These raw audio files are notoriously incompatible with modern players like VLC Media Player due to missing headers, making conversion to MP3 or WAV necessary for playback.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MPM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MPM file to FPM, RPM, MPS, MPH, IPM, SFM, EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK or WAD, you can use Max Payne or similar software from the "Game Modification Archive" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to MPM, try Max Payne or another comparable tool in the "Game Modification Archive" category.
The MPM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MPM converter.
