The .MP2S file is a proprietary game save format. It is used primarily by the third-person shooter game Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne to store player progress, weapon inventory, health stats, and level state. It is also used as a save file format for the Nintendo GameCube title Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.
These files are created and read directly by Max Payne 2 or via GameCube emulators like Dolphin for the Metroid title.
Users often try to convert these files hoping to edit their save data, cheat, extract 3D assets, or transfer saves between different console versions. The major disadvantage is that .MP2S is a closed, binary format locked to a specific game engine. It cannot be opened by standard text editors or web browsers. Without the game installed, the file is entirely useless.
