About MJP files

The .MJP file extension primarily identifies video recordings generated by CSI Tech Multi-Client CCTV systems and various digital video recorders (DVRs). These files utilize a Motion JPEG (MJPEG) compression scheme, where each video frame is essentially a separate JPEG image. A less common variation includes package files for the JRiver Media Center.

The Problem: While MJPEG is a standard algorithm, the .MJP container used by surveillance systems is often proprietary. This is a common source of difficulty; standard media players like Windows Media Player or Apple QuickTime typically cannot parse the proprietary headers or index the frame sequence, rendering the footage unplayable without the specific manufacturer's viewer. Users frequently encounter these files when trying to review security footage, only to find they are locked out of the content.

The Solution:

Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your MJP file.
