About MTW files
A .MTW file is primarily a Minitab Worksheet, a proprietary data format used by Minitab statistical software. Unlike MPJ (Project) files, an .MTW file contains only the raw data grid - columns (variables), constants, and matrices - without the associated graphs, reports, or session history. This file structure is essential for statistical analysis in Six Sigma and quality control workflows but presents significant barriers for users without a licensed copy of Minitab. The format is a binary container (often based on Microsoft Compound Document architecture), making it unreadable by standard text editors and incompatible with Microsoft Excel unless specific, often unavailable, import filters are used. Users frequently need to convert .MTW files to enable data portability, allowing the datasets to be viewed in spreadsheet applications or imported into other analytics tools like R or Python pandas. For general access and editing, converting to XLSX (Excel Workbook) or CSV (Comma Separated Values) is recommended. A secondary, much rarer use of the extension is for waveform sample collections used by the legacy Yamaha RM1x music sequencer.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MTW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted MPX, MWX, MPJ, MTA, WORKSHEETDATA17, MTWDATA, CSV, RAR, ZIP, PDF, WAV, SAV and TXT files.
The MTW Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MTW converter.
