About MMAP files

The .MMAP file is a proprietary diagram format created by MindManager, a visual brainstorming and planning application originally developed by Mindjet (now owned by Corel / Alludo). These files store complex mind maps, including hierarchical nodes, connecting lines, rich text, icons, and embedded metadata used for project management and brainstorming sessions. Internally, .mmap files are built on a standard ZIP compression archive containing XML files and media assets.

The major disadvantage of the .mmap format is its strictly proprietary nature. Sharing these files requires the recipient to have a paid MindManager license or a dedicated viewer installed. It is not supported natively by web browsers, and the full authoring software requires an expensive subscription. This creates heavy friction and limits collaboration with external stakeholders who operate outside of the MindManager ecosystem.

To share your mind map broadly, converting .MMAP to universally accessible formats is highly recommended. Converting to PDF allows for easy document viewing, PNG or JPG provides excellent static image embedding, and DOCX allows for structured text outlines. Keep in mind that converting an .mmap file to a static image or PDF means you will lose the interactive expand/collapse functionality of the native dynamic mind map.

Because .mmap is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters often fail to process the complex XML structures inside. Often, only the original MindManager software can perfectly render and export the visual data. Since the .mmap format utilizes an underlying ZIP archive structure, our analysis can often bypass the proprietary rendering engine to extract embedded images, text, or raw XML data, allowing you to recover your content even without the native software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MMAP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PNG, MMA, MMAP2, MOMMAP, MMAP3, PDF, EMMX, MMAP, HTML, MM, RMP, ZIP and XML files.

The MMAP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MMAP converter.
