The .IS2 file format stores radiometric infrared images captured primarily by Fluke thermal imaging cameras. These files contain more than just a flat picture; they embed raw temperature measurement matrices for every pixel alongside a standard visual reference image. Internally, the format often uses a ZIP container to bundle the infrared data, visual photo, voice annotations, and proprietary camera settings together.
Typically, these files are opened and analyzed using Fluke SmartView or FLIR Tools to generate inspection reports and adjust thermal parameters post-capture. The main disadvantage of the .IS2 format is its heavily proprietary nature. You cannot view an .IS2 file on a mobile phone, a standard web browser, or default operating system image viewers. Sharing these files with clients or colleagues who do not have specialized, heavy desktop software installed is entirely useless.
To share your thermal findings, you must convert the file. For web use, email attachments, or quick viewing, convert to JPG or PNG. Note that converting to a standard image format will permanently strip the underlying radiometric temperature data, leaving only the flattened visual color palette.
