About AVE files
The .AVE file extension primarily represents an Avigilon Native Video Export File, generated by Avigilon Control Center (ACC). It stores high-definition surveillance video footage along with critical metadata, such as timestamps and 256-bit cryptographic signatures, ensuring the footage has not been tampered with. A rare, secondary use is the Avid User File for Avid Media Composer, which simply stores user preference settings and workspace layouts.
The main disadvantage of the Avigilon .AVE format is its extremely restricted, proprietary nature. You cannot open these files in standard media players like VLC or Windows Media Player, and they are completely unsupported by web browsers and social platforms. Viewing them natively requires downloading the bulky Windows-only Avigilon Control Center Player, which creates a massive hurdle when sharing crucial footage with third parties, media outlets, or non-technical personnel.
To make this security footage actually usable, you must convert it. For universal web playback and sharing, convert .AVE to MP4. For video editing in non-linear editors or long-term archiving, convert to AVI or MKV. Note that converting away from the native format will strip the digital signature, which can affect its admissibility in a strict legal setting. Drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.
