About MESH files
A .MESH file is a 3D graphics container that stores geometric data, specifically the vertices, edges, and polygons that define a 3D model. These files are prevalent in game development and scientific visualization. Because the .MESH extension is highly fragmented, it is not a single standardized format. Game engines like Unity, Godot, and Ogre3D use it, alongside games from Paradox Interactive and Roblox. Scientific tools like Gmsh and Medit also generate .MESH files for complex geometric data. The primary disadvantage of this format is a severe lack of interoperability; a Roblox .MESH cannot be opened natively by Unity or Godot. Furthermore, these proprietary binary formats often lock users into a specific game engine and omit external texture data, making them extremely difficult to preview or edit outside their native ecosystem. Converting your .MESH file is essential to escape these software limits and edit the 3D model in standard software like Blender or Autodesk Maya. For universal static 3D editing and web use, convert .MESH to OBJ. If the model includes rigging or skeletal animation, convert to FBX to retain bone structures.
