Convert a file to IM

To convert other file formats to the "Game Asset Mesh" file type, you need software like Trainz Simulator or a similar tool.

About IM files

The .IM file extension primarily represents the Indexed Mesh format, a proprietary binary 3D model structure used extensively by the Trainz Simulator franchise (developed by N3V Games). These files contain the compiled geometry, skeletal animations, and texture mapping data required to render locomotives, rolling stock, and scenery within the game engine.

The Problem: Because .IM files are "cooked" (compiled) for runtime performance, they are not natively supported by standard 3D modeling software like Blender or Autodesk 3ds Max. This proprietary lock-in is a common source of difficulty for modders who wish to repair assets, update legacy content, or port models to other engines, as the files cannot be opened directly.

The Solution:

Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your IM file.
