About MEM files
The .MEM file extension serves multiple specialized technical functions, most commonly as a proprietary measurement data container or as a raw system memory dump. Hardware manufacturers like Hioki and Teledyne LeCroy use .MEM to log continuous waveform, voltage, and temperature readings from their testing equipment. Alternatively, in cybersecurity and digital forensics, .MEM files are raw snapshots of a computer's RAM captured by tools like LiME and analyzed with Volatility. Other legacy applications include FANUC CNC machine backups, Corel WordPerfect memos, and even Mass Effect texture modifications. The primary disadvantage of the .MEM format is its extreme fragmentation and lack of standardization. A .MEM file contains unstructured binary data specific to the device or software that created it. You cannot natively open a hardware .MEM log in standard spreadsheet software; it requires expensive, proprietary viewing software just to render a basic voltage graph. Furthermore, forensic .MEM dumps are massive - often exactly matching the system's physical RAM size (e.g., 16GB or 32GB) - and require command-line frameworks to parse. To make .MEM data actionable, you must convert it. For hardware measurement logs, convert .MEM to CSV or TXT to analyze the raw data points in Microsoft Excel or Python. For archiving waveform charts, convert to PDF. If you are dealing with legacy WordPerfect memos, convert them to DOCX or PDF for modern compatibility.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MEM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MEM file to BAK, BACKUP, OLD, TMP, TEMP, ARC, ZIP, TAR, GZ, 7Z, RAR or ISO, you can use Hioki Waveform Viewer or similar software from the "Hardware Measurement Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SNAPSHOT, OLD, IMG, RESTORE, ISO, COPY, VMDK, TMP, VHD, BAK, ARCHIVE or BACKUP files to MEM, try Hioki Waveform Viewer or another comparable tool in the "Hardware Measurement Data" category.
The MEM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MEM converter.
