Extract text from Configuration and image files (MCI)

To convert other file formats to the "API Configuration Archive" file type, you need software like MuleSoft CloudHub or a similar tool.
A .MCI file primarily functions as an API Manager configuration export generated by MuleSoft CloudHub. It encapsulates routing logic, security policies, and endpoint infrastructure configurations for enterprise API deployments. Secondarily, the extension is used as a Microscopy Image File by scientific imaging software like MetaSystems Isis and MetaMorph to store high-resolution, multi-channel cellular imaging data. In rare cases, it represents a legacy Media Control Interface File used in older versions of Microsoft Windows for multimedia playback.
The core disadvantage of .MCI files is their highly proprietary and fragmented nature. MuleSoft exports are locked into their specific gateway environment, meaning the configurations cannot be natively imported into AWS API Gateway or Apigee without manual translation. Microscopy .MCI files are even more restrictive; they require specialized software licenses - often costing thousands of dollars - just to open and analyze the cellular data. They are not supported by standard operating systems or common image viewers.
To overcome these limitations, users must convert or extract the contents. Fortunately, MuleSoft .MCI files are essentially renamed .ZIP archives. By changing the extension, you can easily access the underlying XML, JSON, and YAML configuration files. Microscopy files, however, must typically be exported to lossless TIFF or standard PNG formats for academic publication. Because these two primary formats are drastically different and highly specialized, standard online converters fail to process them.
