About LSV files
LSV files are proprietary, compressed binary save archives generated by Larian Studios games, most notably the massive RPG hits Baldur's Gate 3 and Divinity: Original Sin 2. Internally, these files function as containers that hold the complete state of a player's journey, including character stats, inventory items, world flags, and quest progress. Because .LSV files are compressed using zlib and encoded in a custom binary format, they are completely unreadable to humans and cannot be opened with standard text editors like Notepad++.
Users typically interact with these files when attempting to "save edit" - modifying the game state to add gold, resurrect characters, or fix bugged quests. The real problem is that the game engine expects a strictly formatted binary file; modifying the raw code will corrupt the save. To safely edit the data, you must convert the .LSV file into a human-readable format like LSX (Larian's XML variant) or standard XML. After editing the text, the file must be converted back to .LSV to be recognized by the game.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LSV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The LSV Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LSV converter.
