A .LSV file is a proprietary savegame archive used by games developed by Larian Studios, specifically Baldur's Gate 3 and Divinity: Original Sin 2. These files store player progress, inventory, world state, and character statistics. By default, these files are read and written exclusively by the game engine. Modders and players often use community-built utilities, such as Norbyte's Export Tool (lslib), to unpack and repack the data. Players frequently want to convert or open .LSV files to modify their game state, fix bugs, or extract character data. The main disadvantage of the .LSV format is that it is a closed, proprietary archive. It utilizes zlib compression to keep file sizes manageable, but this prevents users from opening the file directly in a text editor.
