About LSX files
The .LSX file extension primarily represents an XML-based game data file used by Larian Studios for titles like Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Baldur's Gate 3. These files store essential game logic, mod manifests, and character stats. A secondary use for .LSX files is as an Excel Open XML Spreadsheet associated with Microsoft Excel, where the file acts as a ZIP archive containing structured spreadsheet data. A very small fraction of these files are obsolete Streaming Media Shortcuts for Windows. The main disadvantage of the game-related .LSX format is its strict dependency on the Divinity Engine. While it is technically plain text, opening it without a dedicated XML editor often leads to broken formatting, and an incorrect edit can easily crash the game. You typically need to convert these game files to standard XML, TXT, or JSON for easier editing and mod development.
