About CKI files

A .cki file is most frequently a Cookie Clicker Save File, generated when players manually export their game progress from the popular idle game developed by Orteil. Unlike standard game saves that use binary data, these files typically contain a long, Base64-encoded text string representing your cookies, buildings, and achievements. Users often have trouble here because operating systems do not recognize the .cki extension, meaning double-clicking the file results in an "Open with..." error or a blank window. While the file itself is just a renamed text container, the proprietary encoding makes it unreadable to humans without decoding. A secondary, legacy use of this format is as a dBase Check-in File, used by the dBase database management system to track version control and file locking status in multi-user environments. For Cookie Clicker players, the goal is usually to "convert" or extract the string to import it back into the game or a save editor. For dBase users, the goal is often to convert the data to a modern structured format like CSV or SQL for archiving.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CKI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CFR, SVD and USA files.

The CKI Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CKI converter.
