Extract text from MediaTek apps or CAD files (VXP)
To convert VXP Apps or files to another format, you need MediaTek MAUI or other Executable software.
To convert other file formats to the "Feature Phone Application" file type, you need software like MediaTek MAUI or a similar tool.
The .vxp file format most commonly functions as an application executable for the MediaTek MAUI Runtime Environment (MRE) or VRE platform. These files power budget smartwatches (like the IW4) and older HMD or Nokia feature phones. Internally, they are often structured as zlib or ZIP compressed archives containing compiled ELF binaries. A secondary, completely distinct use for .vxp is as a CAD building design project file created by Vertex Systems or Tekla Structures. Lastly, the extension is sometimes used by the Varian RPM System to log patient respiratory signal data.
Handling .vxp files is highly frustrating because they are proprietary, undocumented, and tied to obsolete hardware or niche enterprise software. A smartwatch .vxp file cannot be installed on a modern Android or iOS device, meaning you cannot run the app without the original hardware. Similarly, Vertex CAD files are often large, require expensive commercial software to open, and are not supported by standard web browsers or document viewers.
To overcome these limitations, you must convert or extract the file. If you are analyzing a smartwatch app, extract the target to ZIP to access the internal ELF payload and image assets. If you are dealing with a CAD project, convert it to PDF for document archiving or DXF for cross-platform 2D editing in other drafting tools.
