About LLM files
The .LLM file extension is primarily associated with Linden Lab Mesh files used in Second Life, and secondarily with Labeled Laser Measurement data from systems like Poly-Cam.
1. Linden Lab Mesh (3D Avatar/Object)
These binary files store geometry data for avatars and 3D assets within the proprietary Second Life ecosystem.
The Problem: They are strictly internal assets intended for the Second Life Viewer. Users often find these files in cache directories or asset backups and realize they cannot open them in standard 3D software like Blender, Maya, or Unity. Because the format is compiled for real-time rendering in a specific engine, it lacks the headers required by universal formats.
The Solution: To edit or archive these assets, you must convert them to OBJ (for static geometry) or FBX (if rigging is preserved).
2. Labeled Laser Measurement (CAD/GIS)
In industrial contexts, an .LLM file may contain point cloud or vector data generated by Poly-Cam laser measurement tools.
The Problem: These files are often locked to the manufacturer's proprietary viewing software. Engineers and architects frequently struggle to import this raw measurement data into AutoCAD or Revit for practical drafting.
The Solution: Converting these to DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) or CSV (Point Cloud Data) is essential for interoperability with standard CAD pipelines.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LLM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted LLSD, MLX, SLM and JD files.
The LLM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LLM converter.
