About LMT files

The .LMT file extension is heavily fragmented, primarily functioning as a proprietary game data file. In most cases, it acts as an animation and motion data container for the Capcom MT Framework engine, used in games like Lost Planet 2. Alternatively, it serves as the Map Tree configuration file in RPG Maker 2000/2003, storing the hierarchical folder structure of a game's map files. Other niche uses include XML-based Mettler Toledo LabX laboratory methods, KeyShot Mold-Tech texture files, and Leap Motion tracking recordings. Because most .LMT files are closed, proprietary binary containers, they lock your data into a specific software ecosystem. You cannot natively view a Capcom animation file in standard 3D software like Blender, and RPG Maker map trees cannot be exported directly to modern game engines. This strict vendor lock-in makes the format incredibly frustrating for modders, game developers, and researchers trying to migrate assets. Converting an .LMT file highly depends on its internal structure. LabX .LMT files can easily be renamed to XML or TXT for reading. Capcom game animations typically require specialized community-built extractors to convert into standard FBX or SMD formats. RPG Maker map trees do not convert well to anything outside of the RPG Maker engine, as they rely on engine-specific pointers. Standard online converters fail to process .LMT files because they cannot guess which of the multiple, unrelated formats your file belongs to. Our analyzer will identify the internal signature of the file, let you view embedded text, and convert it if a supported underlying format is detected.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LMT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The LMT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LMT converter.
