About EBT files
The .EBT file extension primarily acts as an Electronic Batch Report used by the healthcare clearinghouse Availity. These files contain structured batch data, such as medical claims, payment remittances, and billing transactions. A secondary use is as an encrypted Book File originally developed by the now-defunct eBook Technologies, Inc.
The major disadvantage of the .EBT format is its strictly proprietary nature. For healthcare users, these files are designed explicitly for the Availity network; attempting to open them in standard spreadsheet software usually yields a jumbled, unreadable mess of unformatted EDI data. For ebook users, the files are typically locked down with DRM (Digital Rights Management), rendering them inaccessible to modern readers like Calibre.
Converting an .EBT file depends heavily on its internal structure. Healthcare batch reports are best converted into CSV or TXT formats for custom data parsing, though you may lose the rigid structural validation of the original batch. Encrypted ebooks theoretically target EPUB or PDF, but this is largely impossible without first stripping the obsolete DRM.
Because this file format is difficult to open or convert, standard online converters fail. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EBT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert EBT file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Availity Portal or similar software from the "Healthcare Batch Data & eBooks" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The EBT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EBT converter.
