About LICENSE files
The .license file extension is used to store software usage rights, authorization keys, or open-source agreement text. Its contents vary wildly depending on the vendor. Some .license files are plain text documents containing terms like the MIT License or the GNU General Public License. Others are proprietary binary keys, XML files, or even compressed archives used by commercial applications like PreSonus Studio One, PaperCut MF, or Video Copilot Element 3D. The main disadvantage of the .license format is its extreme ambiguity. Since there is no standard internal structure, your operating system does not know how to open it by default. Furthermore, binary and encrypted license files cannot be opened or edited without corrupting the cryptographic signature, rendering the software useless. If you need to read legal terms or view raw XML data, convert the .license file to TXT or PDF for safe, easy reading. If the file is actually a compressed archive, convert it to ZIP to extract the contents. Note that converting a functional commercial license key will usually break its ability to activate software. Drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LICENSE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The LICENSE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LICENSE converter.
