About LIC files
A .lic file is a software license data file primarily associated with license management technologies like FlexNet Publisher (formerly FLEXlm) and Reprise License Manager (RLM). These files function as digital keys, containing critical authorization details such as expiration dates, feature flags, host IDs, and digital signatures required to run enterprise software like AutoCAD, MATLAB, and Veeam Backup & Replication. While many .lic files are encoded in standard plain text or XML, they often present a significant problem for users: they lack a default file association in Windows or macOS, meaning double-clicking results in an error. Furthermore, some vendors, such as MIP-Computing or Kaspersky, use encrypted or binary formats that render the file unreadable in standard text editors. Users typically need to convert these files to verify license terms, troubleshoot activation errors, or archive purchase records. For immediate inspection, converting to TXT reveals the internal configuration. For documentation and compliance archiving, converting to PDF ensures the license details are preserved in a universally viewable, non-editable format.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LIC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert LIC file to XML, DAT, PDF, TXT, TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW or PART, you can use FlexNet Publisher or similar software from the "Software License Activation" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to LIC, try FlexNet Publisher or another comparable tool in the "Software License Activation" category.
The LIC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LIC converter.
