About LIC files
A .LIC file is a software license management file used to activate, register, or manage usage rights for commercial applications. These files typically contain cryptographic keys, server parameters, user entitlements, or hardcoded expiration dates. They are heavily utilized by enterprise license managers such as FlexNet Publisher (formerly FLEXlm) and Reprise License Manager, as well as consumer and professional software like Veeam Backup & Replication, Kaspersky, and MATLAB.
The primary disadvantage of a .LIC file is its fragility. Because it is strictly formatted for machine reading and secured with cryptographic hashes, modifying a single character can invalidate the digital signature, breaking your software activation. Furthermore, since hundreds of different vendors use the .LIC extension, there is no universal software to open them. While many are plain text (UTF-8) or XML, others are encrypted binaries, or even compressed ZIP archives (such as those used by Broadcom CA API Gateway).
Converting a .LIC file is usually done for documentation or safe-reading purposes, rather than to change how the host software uses it. For archiving or sharing license details safely without risking accidental modification, convert .LIC to PDF. If you need to extract the raw text or parse the internal structure, convert it to TXT or XML.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LIC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert LIC file to XML, DAT, PDF, TXT, TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW or PART, you can use FlexNet Publisher or similar software from the "Software License Verification" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to LIC, try FlexNet Publisher or another comparable tool in the "Software License Verification" category.
The LIC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LIC converter.
