About LEVEL1 files

The .level1 file is a proprietary scene or level data file primarily used by the Unity game engine, and occasionally associated with specific PC games like The Talos Principle. It stores level geometry setups, physics rules, object placements, and complex asset references. You typically open and edit these files using the Unity Editor (Wikipedia) or specialized game modding software.

The major disadvantage of the .level1 format is that it relies entirely on its surrounding project hierarchy. It is not a standalone 3D model; rather, it is a complex container of links to external textures, audio, and scripts. Opening it without the original project structure results in broken references and missing data. It is highly proprietary, requires a heavy software installation, and is not supported by web browsers or generic 3D viewers.

Users frequently need to extract geometry or layouts from these files into universal target formats like FBX, OBJ, or GLTF so they can be imported into Blender or Maya. However, doing so usually requires opening the file in Unity and using an explicit export plugin.

This file format is difficult to open or convert externally. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. Standard online converters fail because they cannot process the proprietary asset links. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LEVEL1 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted LEVEL2, RESS, LEVEL0, ASSETS, LEVEL3, RESOURCE, GLOBALGAMEMANAGERS, DLL, LB, PROG and __DATA files.
