About ASSETS files
.ASSETS files are compiled, serialized data archives created by the Unity game engine. Game developers use these containers to bundle 3D models, textures, animations, scripts, and audio into unified packages that the game loads at runtime.
To interact with these files during development, creators use the Unity Editor. For reverse engineering or modding, users rely on specialized third-party extraction tools like AssetStudio or Unity Asset Bundle Extractor (UABE).
The primary disadvantage of the .ASSETS format is its proprietary, closed nature. These files act as black boxes that lock data inside a binary structure. They are completely unsupported by standard archivers or media players. Furthermore, the internal serialization schema changes frequently between different versions of the Unity engine, making backward compatibility a major headache. The files can also be massive, often exceeding several gigabytes in size.
Users typically need to unpack .ASSETS files to access the raw, editable media inside. The best conversion targets depend on the internal file: FBX or OBJ for extracted 3D models, PNG or TGA for textures, and WAV or OGG for audio tracks. Converting these files extracts the media but permanently strips away the Unity-specific engine logic, shaders, and scripts.
This file format is difficult to open or convert online because it is a complex container rather than a standard media file. Standard online converters fail to process it because they lack the engine-specific parsing logic. If our analysis detects supported underlying formats embedded in the archive, viewing or extraction may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ASSETS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ASSETS file to TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD, LOCK or PID, you can use Unity or similar software from the "Game Asset Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to ASSETS, try Unity or another comparable tool in the "Game Asset Storage" category.
The ASSETS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ASSETS converter.
